How to stream to StickyStage

Great you decided to go live on StickyStage! Our crowd will love you for it. We made streaming live music pretty easy. Just follow the steps below and you can be live in a couple of minutes. This how-to assumes that you've already registered and you can login into your profile section.

Download Open Broadcaster Studio

To make a live stream possible you'll need to download broadcaster software. There are several options and Open Broadcaster Studio (OBS) is one which is widely supported. Go to and download Open Broadcaster Studio. Make sure to download the OBS Studio version and not "OBS Classic". After you have downloaded the application, install it on your computer.

1 Configure Open Broadcaster Studio Now that you've installed Open Broadcaster Studio open it and click the Settings button. Click the settings button

2 Setup your stream key and url We need to configure the stream key and url. Note that you should never share your steam key with others, so make sure to keep it private. Sign in on StickyStage and go to your My profile section (click on your avatar after logging in). There you click on the Stream tab and then on the sub-menu Stream key and url.

Collect your stream key and url

Go back to OBS and after you've clicked the Settings button you click on the Stream option on the left. This will show you a form where you can setup your stream information.

  1. Select Custom Streaming Server for the Stream Type.

  2. Copy and paste the URL from you Stream Key and url section in your profile.

  3. In the Stream key field you paste the Stream Key from you profile which you can find underneath the Stream tab.

Setup your stream

3 Canvas Setup OBS uses a canvas that you can use to design the output video stream. It's for example possible to stream from two webcams at the same time. But because this how-to describes how to stream from one webcam we can optimise the output stream. Click the Settings button in OBS and select the Video tab. There, make sure that the Base (Canvas) Resolution and the Output (Scaled) Resolution are both set to 1280x720.

Setup your canvas

4 Setup Video Output Now that we've setup the canvas, we have to configure the video and audio. Again click on the Settings button and then click the Output tab on the left. Change the output mode to Advanced. Now, go to Rate Control and make sure that CBR is selected and the CBR value reads 2500. When you have a bad internet connection, try to lower this bitrate value if your video stream is not smooth. Change the value of Keyframe interval to 1. See the image below for the settings you should use.

Setup your video output

Setup Audio Output Select the Audio tab and make sure that all bitrates are set to 192.

Setup your audio output

Click the OK button, we're almost there.

5 Select your webcam Now that we've configured our output stream and encoder setings, we have to select the sources that we want to stream. With OBS you can design your output stream and here we'll show you how to stream your webcam.

Select your capture device
  1. Click on the + button to add a new Scene. Enter something meaningful if you like, we'll be using the default value Scene 1.

  2. Now, click the + button to add a new Source. Because we want to stream from a webcam, we select Video Capture Device. Again, you can enter something meaningfull if you like or use the default value Video Capture Device. After entering a name (or leaving the default name as it is) and pressing the OK button a new window is shown where you can select your capture device. Select the device that you want to use and if available select the 1280x720 preset, otherwise choose one which is closest to this resolution.

Select your capture device

6 Start Streaming Ok, you're now ready to start streaming! You only need to press the Start Streaming button and your stream will show up on your page on
